Why choose it over the Grand Canyon
The park sits 55 minutes northeast of the Strip. You'll spend 90 minutes round-trip in the car versus five-plus hours to the canyon's rim — and the red sandstone landscapes genuinely rival postcard canyons. Entry runs $15 per vehicle (2026).
The three essential stops
- Fire Wave Trail — 1.2-mile loop over striped sandstone; go before noon, shade is minimal
- Atlatl Rock — petroglyphs 200+ years old on a stair-accessible ledge
- Elephant Rock — quick roadside arch near the east entrance

- Best months: November–March; summer mornings only
- Leave Vegas by 7 AM in hot months — the park closes trailheads in extreme heat
